Advancement of Neuroscience Nursing through Research
An important part of the NNF mission is to encourage qualified nurses to contribute to the advancement of neuroscience nursing through research. 2012 NNF Research Grants totaling $25,550.00, supported by funding from the Integra Foundation, were:
- $10,000 - "Use of administrative data to develop and validate a set of nurse sensitive measures in patients with stroke". Pat Zrelak, Center for Healthcare Policy & Research, Un. California-Davis, Sacramento, CA and;
- $10,000 - "Description and identification of the peripheral immune response trajectories over time in first time & recurrent stroke/TIA". Amy Miner Ross, Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, OR.
- $2,100.97 - "Effect of nighttime use of earplugs on delirium onset and sleep perception in older ICU patients: A randomized controlled study". Fatima Garcia, West Kendall Baptist Hosp., Miami FL,
- $950 " - Beyond the Braden Scale: Effectiveness of a small group educational program on neuro-nurses Braden risk assessment scores and number of preventative nursing interventions"/ Lee T. Streeter, South Miami Hospital, South Miami, FL,
- $2,500 - "The transitional experience of post stroke survivors in the first 48 hours after going home: A pilot study" Teresa Connolly, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA.
NNF Expands CNRN Exam Preparation Site Grants to 63 candidates
Increased funding from Acorda Therapeutics and a new partner, the Integra Foundation made it possible for seven sites to received support with a total 63 candidates for this year's NNF CNRN Exam Preparation Site Grants. An additional 29 candidates are participating through local site fundraising efforts. For example, the Spokane site, received direct support from the local AANN Chapter for 3 additional candidates.
The seven sites chosen for 2013 exam preparation in March or July were:
